New Business:

  • The First Annual Crozet Culinary Competition for Charity on Thursday, September 20, 5:30 to 7:30 PM at the Lodge at Old Trail.   Volunteers are needed to help staff the event.  This is a fundraiser for the new Crozet/Western Albemarle Library and Claudius Crozet Park pavilion replacement fund.  (need to raise $20K in addition to augment insurance funds).
  • There are vacancies on several Albemarle County Boards and Commissions, several of which are specifically for White Hall District residents.  YOU  are encourage to apply.   • Crozet Community Advisory Council meeting next WEDNESDAY, September 19 at 7:00 PM at The Meadows.    Note date change is just this once.  Everyone is encouraged to attend.

Local burglary suspect in custody

August 18, 2012

Also at Thursday's Crozet Community Advisory Council (CCAC) meeting, Ann Mallek read an email she had just received from the Albemarle County Policy department saying they had two suspects in custody related to several burglaries that have occurred over the last two or three weeks.   On Friday, the Charlottesville Newplex  and NBC29 reported that the police had charged 34 year-old Caleb Limbaugh Rowe is being held without bond, facing four charges of burglary and four counts of grand larceny.  The Newsplex article includes more information and photo of Mr. Limbaugh while the NBC29 article contains more details and reports from some victims

See a truck spraying along the roads?

As reported by Cville Tomorrow the Crozet Community Advisory Council (CCAC) on Thursday night (8/16) heard from our BOS representative, Ann Mallek, about trucks spraying what is likely herbicide along Sugar Hollow Road on Thursday morning.  ,

If you see spraying – please call the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, at 540-222-1022.  Ann said this is  Tom Burke's number at this office.

Charity Event Planning meeting August 21 at 7PM

The next “Local Chef-Competition” Planning meeting

is Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at 7:00 PM at the pub at the Lodge at Old Trail.

If you'd like to help with the planning and execution of this charity event on September 20th, please plan to join us at Tuesday, August 21st 7PM meeting . If you can't make it, let Tim Tolson know.

And mark your calendars for the friendly competition between four local restaurant chefs.  The event is September 20 at 5:30 PM at the Lodge at Old Trail.  The $20 admission ticket will be a donation of $15 to the Crozet Park (to replace the pavilion that collapsed) and the Build Crozet Library fundraising to furnish the new library!  TIckets will go on sale August 20!

The third Thursday of the month, August 16, at 7:00 PM at the Meadows.

This is a public meeting and anyone is welcome and everyone is encourage to attend.

Homemade Peach Ice Cream Sale by Crozet Lions Club

Date & Time:  Saturday, August 11 from 9:00 to 6:00 & Sunday, August 12 from 10:00 to 5:00

Location:  Chiles Peach Orchard, 1351 Greenwood Road, Crozet, VA, 22932, 434-823-1583

Homemade ice cream made with fresh peaches from Chiles Orchard.  All proceeds go to local charities and the Lions mission (aiding persons with hearing & sight challenges).

Startup meeting for Crozet charity event is July 25 at 7PM

Can you help us plan this charitable event?

David Hilliard, owner of the Lodge at Old Trail, in collaboration with Ellen King, of King Family Vineyards are interested in planning an annual event for Crozet charities, with the charities varying each year.   This year, the date will be the third Thursday of September, September 20, 2012.

I'm writing to ask that you join me, David, and Ellen at a meeting to beginning planning this event.  We'd like to get as many Crozet charitable organizations as possible involved in the event as possible.

We are meeting in the pub at the Lodge at Old Trail, Wednesday, July 25 at 7:00 pm.  Please sign in at the front desk.

More about this charitable event

The event would be an Iron Chef like cook off, using local restaurant chefs, to be held at The Lodge at Old Trail.  David's already gotten several chefs who are interested in participating.  The idea is to invite several local chefs to square off and sell tickets to the event. The Lodge would provide some appetizers and one drink for the price of the ticket, that costs, maybe $20.The hope is  75% of the ticket price would go to charities and some would go to operations. Maybe that split could be higher. Then we would have a cash bar and certain proceeds of that would also go to the charities.  Their idea is that this year the proceeds would go to both the new Crozet Library fundraising (Build Crozet Library) and the Claudius Crozet Park./p>

The reasons behind the event:

  1. To raise money for Crozet charities.
  2. To pull Crozet restaurants and chefs  together and let folks know we've got some great restaurants here.
  3. To make people realize Crozet can be a destination point
  4. To raise awareness of needs of Crozet and the non-profit organizations in the community.

David is willing do a mailing to his lists and also advertise in all papers and TV  Staunton/Waynesboro/Charlottesville/Wintergreen/Fluvanna. Lee Catlin, Albemarle County's Assistant to the County Executive for Community and Business Partnerships is willing to help with advertising as well as Ellen King.

We could set up certain rooms in The Lodge for the Crozet Library displays and also the Crozet Parks displays.  If we had 300 people attend we would be able to raise $4500.00, plus the sales of liquor not to mention the awareness of the people that might attend that you all could look at as potential larger donors.
