Update on old Acme Visible Record Property – 16 April 2014

April 16, 2014

Hello everyone,

I am writing to provide you with a brief update on the demolition activities at the Acme Visible Records site in Crozet.  Despite winter’s best efforts to delay the project, the building demolition of the main manufacturing facility and former credit union building at the site was completed on March 28th, 2014.   Additionally, the former carpentry building was demolished. As you may recall, the original plan had been to keep it, but there ended up being significant roof, structural, and infrastructure issues with this building. Repair costs were astronomical as compared to the building value.  The building would have been more of a liability in a potential sale, than an asset.

The final remediation strategy development as required by the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) program remains on schedule as discussed at our November Community meeting. We are working closely with the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality to advance the project toward completion. The goal remains to have the property ready for productive use in 2016.

As always, please contact me should you have any additional questions.

All the best,

Sarah

Support the Crozet Library budget request

Your help is needed to support the Crozet Library funding increase requested as part of the Jefferson-Madison Regional Library's annual budget request to Albemarle County.  The Albemarle County Executive's proposed budget for FY2015, released recently, includes increased funding for the Jefferson-Madison Regional Library. Those increases cover:
  1. Mandates required by the County's requested changes to the revised regional agreement,
  2. Additional costs due to the development of the new Northside Library,
  3. Salary increases to bring JMRL staff pay closer to comparable County positions, part of a multi-year effort, based upon the County's recommendation of a professional salary comparison.

Tabor Street Closing and Detour information

The daytime closure (8 AM to 4:30 PM) of Tabor Street with detour continues Monday, March 31 through Friday, April 4. The road will be closed to through traffic but access to private property will be maintained from High Street during the closure.  Complete closure of the road will speed up the proposed Tabor Street improvements and will result in a safer construction work zone.

  • Tabor Street will be closed and the detour used only on weekdays between the hours of 8:00 AM and 4:30 PM,
  • The existing gravel surface of the detour route through the lumberyard is graded and additional stone added as necessary to provide a drivable surface acceptable to VDOT and maintained in that condition for the duration of the detour.
  • Detour signage is provided as directed by VDOT. Traffic barrels will be place at 20-foot intervals to indicate the detour route.  Please do NOT go via The Square.
  • The road closure has been coordinated with the public school bus routing managers.

If you have concerns or questions about the Crozet Streetscape, Albemarle County's Project Manager is Frank Pohl.
He will hold office hours Wednesdays from Noon to 1:00 PM at the Crozet Library
