Update from VDOT at 1:10 PM, Saturday, June 8, 2013
Rte 250 (Rockfish Gap Turnpike) has reopened to traffic from Route 151 (Rockfish Valley Rd) to the top of Afton Mountain. The highway was closed early this morning during an investigation by the Virginia State Police.

A detour has been established for traffic on Route 250 (Rockfish Gap Turnpike) in western Albemarle County. The road is closed from Route 151 (Rockfish Valley Road) to the top of Afton Mountain due to a police investigation.
Motorists traveling across Afton Mountain this morning should use Interstate 64. Traffic traveling east on Route 250 is being routed onto Interstate 64 at exit 99 at the summit of Afton Mountain. Traffic can get back onto Route 250 at exit 107 at Crozet. Westbound traffic is being directed onto Route 750 (Old Turnpike) to Route 6 (Afton Mountain Road) and back to Route 250. The road is expected to remain closed for most of the morning.
